XI JINPING HOLDS TELEPHONE TALKS WITH US PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD TRUMP

On November 14, 2016, President Xi Jinping held telephone talks with President-elect Donald Trump of the US.

Congratulating Donald Trump on his election as President of the US, Xi Jinping said that since the establishment of China-US diplomatic relationship 37 years ago, bilateral relations have been continuously moving forward, which has brought tangible benefits to the two peoples and also promoted world and regional peace, stability and prosperity. WANG YI AND FOREIGN MINISTER MEVLUT CAVUSOGLU OF TURKEY HOLD THE FIRST MEETING OF CHINA-TURKEY FOREIGN MINISTERS’ CONSULTATION MECHANISM

On November 13, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held the first meeting of China-Turkey foreign ministers’ consultation mechanism with Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu of Turkey in Ankara. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on bilateral relations and international and regional topics of common concern.

Wang Yi said that under concerted efforts of both sides, China-Turkey relations have presented a healthy, stable and positive development momentum in general in recent years. The two heads of state always view and manage China-Turkey relations from a strategic perspective, and both sides have enhanced mutual support on issues involving respective core concerns. As two major developing countries and important emerging economies, China and Turkey share tremendous potential and space in bilateral relations. Attaching great importance to its relations with Turkey, China is willing to make good use of the foreign ministers’ consultation mechanism to strengthen strategic communication and policy coordination between the two foreign ministries, comprehensively implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and constantly push forward China-Turkey strategic cooperative relations. Through the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” initiative, we should fully tap the potential and advantages of both sides and make new contributions to achieving respective national development, revitalizing the Eurasian continent and boosting the progress of human civilization.

Mevlut Cavusoglu noted that in recent years, Turkey and China have maintained frequent high-level exchanges and close and effective consultations at all levels and in various fields, which plays an important role in promoting bilateral relations. Turkey-China strategic cooperative relations have been constantly enriched and deepened. Attaching great importance to developing relations with China, the Turkish side looks forward to further expanding bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, pushing forward cooperation in major projects and reinforcing exchanges and cooperation in education, culture, tourism and other people-to-people and cultural engagement areas.

Both sides agree to fully implement the consensus reached by both heads of state from their three meetings since last year and outcomes of the first meeting of the China-Turkey Inter-governmental Cooperation Committee mechanism, so as to push bilateral strategic cooperative relations for greater development. The two countries should deeply integrate the “Belt and Road” initiative with the Middle Corridor initiative, put forward new cooperation concepts and patterns and mainly advance large-scale cooperation projects including the East-West High-Speed Railway project, so as to realize early harvest and achieve common development. WANG YI: PUSH CHINA-US RELATIONS FOR GREATER PROGRESS AT A NEW STARTING POINT

On November 13, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu of Turkey jointly met the press in Ankara after the 1st meeting of China-Turkey foreign ministers’ consultation mechanism.

When asked whether China is in contact with US President-elect Donald Trump’s team, Wang Yi said that China and the US maintain close contact at all levels. To constantly develop and deepen China-US relations is the consensus of both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party of the US. China is willing to continuously cooperate with the Barack Obama administration to ensure a smooth transition of China-US relations to the next term of the US government. WANG YI PAYS OFFICIAL VISIT TO UZBEKISTAN

On November 12, 2016 local time, Acting President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan met in Tashkent with Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev thanked Chinese leaders for their firm support to Uzbekistan in critical moments, which fully demonstrates the high degree of political mutual trust between Uzbekistan and China. Uzbekistan will continue to follow a development path suitable to its own national conditions and support China to safeguard its core interests and major concerns, as well as crack down on the “three evil forces”. WANG YI: CHINA-UZBEKISTAN COMPREHENSIVE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP IS BELIEVED TO ACHIEVE NEW PROGRESS

On November 12, 2016 local time, after holding talks in Tashkent, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov of Uzbekistan jointly met the press.

Wang Yi said that this is my third visit to Tashkent within this year, which fully demonstrates the closeness of bilateral exchanges and the high level of bilateral relations. During this visit, I first went to Samarkand to pay tribute to President Islam Karimov. President Islam Karimov was the founding President and an outstanding leader of Uzbekistan, who dedicated his life to the Uzbek people. As an old friend and good friend of the Chinese people, he also made historic contributions to the development of China-Uzbekistan relations. The Chinese people will cherish the memory of him forever.

Just now, Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov and I had an in-depth discussion concerning the development plan of China-Uzbekistan relations in the new period, reaching extensive consensus: we both agree that the top priority at present is to jointly well implement the results yielded from President Xi Jinping’s historic visit to Uzbekistan this June, especially to add new connotations to, tap new fields for and inject new impetus into the comprehensive strategic partnership officially established by the two countries.

We both agree to continue to set the joint construction of the “Silk Road Economic Belt” as the main course of China-Uzbekistan cooperation. We will accelerate cooperation in such aspects as infrastructure construction and industrial park construction. China is willing to continue to import competitive commodities from Uzbekistan, support Uzbekistan’s infrastructure construction, encourage Chinese enterprises to invest in Uzbekistan and provide necessary financing support for major cooperation projects through such channels as Chinese financing institutions, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Silk Road Fund. In accordance with Uzbekistan’s needs, China will offer high-quality, advanced and environmental friendly production capacity and equipment so as to assist Uzbekistan to speed up its industrial modernization.

We also agree to strengthen bilateral and multilateral communication and coordination, deepen cooperation in law enforcement, security and intelligence, sternly combat the “three evil forces” together, and enhance cooperation within multilateral frameworks, including the UN and Shanghai Cooperation Organization, so as to safeguard peace, stability and security in the region and the world.

Wang Yi expressed that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the independence of Uzbekistan. Over the past 25 years, under the leadership of President Islam Karimov, the Uzbek people have made great achievements in consolidating national independence and development. Since Acting President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took office, he and President Xi Jinping have exchanged several letters. Leaders of both countries agree to maintain high-level contacts, strengthen mutual support, and work together to push China-Uzbekistan relations for smooth transition and new development. We are glad to see that under the leadership of Acting President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan has maintained unity, social harmony and stability and sustained economic growth internally as well as more active external relations. Next month, Uzbekistan will hold a presidential election. China believes that this election will definitely be a success. Uzbekistan will certainly achieve new development and prosperity, and China-Uzbekistan comprehensive strategic partnership will certainly make new progress. As the comprehensive strategic partner of Uzbekistan, China will support Uzbekistan as usual in following a development path suitable to its own national conditions, back its efforts in safeguarding sovereignty independence as well as legitimate rights and interests, and support the country to play a more active role in international and regional stages.
